About Us
La Maga--Songs of Immigrants & ICE

These songs, from different perspectives , were born from the borderlands — from the shadows where families vanish, where children sleep under foil blankets, and where hope is held like a smuggled flame. They speak of the journey north with dust in the mouth and love in the heart, of the knock at the door in the dead of night, of cages and prayers and names unspoken. In the spirit of folk protest, these songs carry the ache of exile and the fire of justice. They are witness, elegy, and resistance — a way to sing for the voiceless and remember what it means to be human.

These songs tell real stories of migration—people leaving everything behind and walking into danger, crossing deserts and rivers, riding the tops of trains, hiding from ICE, praying to stay together as a family.

They are protest songs, but also witness songs—born from empathy, informed by lived voices, created to shine light where silence usually lives.

About David Williams
David Williams is an Emmy-winning songwriter, author, and longtime advocate for human and environmental rights. His work has appeared on PBS, in national publications, and in community spaces across the U.S. Across decades and genres—Americana, blues, gypsy jazz, folk—his music has centered on storytelling: songs for young people, songs for threatened landscapes, and songs for communities fighting injustice.
With LA MIGRA, he turns that storytelling toward the front lines of America’s immigration crisis.

Why These Songs Matter
Across the country, people held in ICE detention endure family separation, legal uncertainty, and difficult conditions. Their stories often vanish in political noise. These songs aim to bring those stories back—human, emotional, unforgettable.

Call to Action
People on the move are not statistics. They are families, dreams, vulnerabilities, and strengths.
These songs are created to honor their journeys—to keep their stories alive, to stand with those seeking safety, and to remind us that no one belongs in a cage.
